We began Sunday in Oklahoma City. Nice, but windy, morning.
The plan for the day was to make a couple of detours on our way westward to visit the Route 66 Museum and visit "Flat Top Bob", an internet acquaintence of Bob McCreary, who owns and operates a 65 Acre Salvage Yard (Junkyard for you uninitiated) in Wellington, Texas.
Here are some pics as we made our way to the Route 66 Museum
And here are a few shots in front of the Rt 66 Museum

They say there are two things that come out of Oklahoma steers and ...
Just kidding, Bob, Ray put me up to this!!
Our next destination was Flat Top Bob's salvage yard and residence... we didn't know what to expect, as we were arriving unannounced on a Sunday afternoon. Heck, we would have been happy peering through the fence at some of the vintage tin he had sitting in the salvage yard. Boy, were we in for a surprise!
As it turns out, we were able to reach Flat Top Bob (hither more known as FTB) through a series of calls to his mother who provided his cell number. (Wow, little town in Texas where everyone's number is listed and they answer the phone!). He met us at the yard and proceeded to give us the VIP tour. Here are some photos from the tour:
Out front
Inside storage- more engines, transmissions, rear ends, axles, wheels, etc. than you can imagine. All meticulously labeled.
The yard
The "Tour Bus"... hmmm...
Look closely at the dashboard... built in "Tour Bus" security system
Lots more to come- Stay tuned for Part 2 of Sunday's adventures!
